How hard to get home equity loan?
I recently inherited a New England farmhouse assessed at $ 400,000. The roof needs to be replaced along with plumbing, electric etc. My credit is in the low 600 range and I am not working, as I am a full time student. I am a disabled vet so I do have a set income and my wife does as well. Would it be hard for us to get a equity loan for around 160, 000 with less then good credit.

If we surrender the auto back to the credit union in NC who financed it and the spouse is on the loan by himself, can they get a judgement lien on our home mortgage that we owe jointly? Also, can they garnish wages for this type of debt (auto loan)? If they sell it at an auction I realize they will come back to him for the deficiency balance but his name is the only one on the auto and everything else is joint together that we own or shall I state are paying for since we do not own our home free and clear?

I’ve received an offer from a local auto dealership and they are offering to pay off my loan if I finance a new automobile through them – even if I am upside down on the loan. I was told it was easier to get a home loan approved if I used my VA, because the government would back a part of the loan in case it foreclosed so lenders are are willing to lend to someone who uses VA. Also, I was told VA accepts a more massive dept to income ratio than the other financing. Are these both true?
