Q&A: STUDENT LOAN CONSOLIDATION – IF BOTH SPOUSES HAVE $80K+?
May 20th
Question by me:
Student Loan Consolidation – if both spouses have K+?
OK so I asked about the 20% plan and because we both have large loans, the only option is to pay 40% of our income for 30 years. (20% of our combined income twice). I argued, talked to supervisors, but that is the ideal deal they can give us. Regular payments would be $ 3K/month, which is more than we make. We were both low-income children who thought going to college was a good idea, now we will never get out from under. It seems so absolutely hopeless so any ideas would be helpful.

STUDENT LOAN CONSOLIDATION- BENEFITS AND GOOD COMPANIES TO DO IT THROUGH?
May 13th
Question by Mortel_LS:
Student Loan Consolidation- benefits and good companies to do it through?
I have roughly $ 68,000 in private loans at a variable rate (currently 6.15%) and an extra $ 15,000 in federal loans at a rate of 4.15%. Right now my monthly payment is about $ 800. I am able to pay it, but obviously it’s very high and would like to decrease it if possible. I see a ton of places offering to consolidate, but do not know of one that will not try to screw you over. Also, is a good time to do it now, wait a tiny bit or what?

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A STUDENT LOAN COMPANY THAT DOES SPOUSAL CONSOLIDATION?
Apr 15th
Question by mama barney:
Does anyone know of a student loan company that does spousal consolidation?
We know the downside of – if one of us dies the other is responsible for the loan – but we both have such high interest rates and would love to consolidate before they go up again. We are trying to simplify our finances and reap the benefits of smaller payments…

HOW WOULD I ENTER MY INCOME AND AGI FOR STUDENT LOAN CONSOLIDATION ?
Apr 12th
Question by detech69:
How would I enter my income and AGI for student loan consolidation ?
Before I drive to see a financial aid person at the college. I am filling out an on the web application to consolidate my student loans. I am nearly done, however, my 2009 AGI is lower than my present source of income. I put in my 09 AGI and entered my current amount of income. Sense those two do not match will not grant me to continue. Do i enter my new AGI (current) because technically I have not filed my 2010 taxes yet. Should I just send in a paper form with my 09 taxes with a current paystub?

WHAT IS THE BEST BANK/FINANCIAL INSTITUTION FOR STUDENT LOAN CONSOLIDATION …AND SHOULD I WAIT?
Apr 8th
Question by Ashlee H:
What is the ideal bank/financial institution for student loan consolidation …and should I wait?
I’m looking to consolidate my student loans. All my loans right now are NJ CLASS loans and are at around 6.1% …which is low, but in this climate I am certain I will be able to find lower than 5%. I am interested to know what are the ideal banks/financial institutions to work with (from your experience and knowledge), and should I wait for rates to go lower? I know rates are going down, and fast… how long do you guys feel I should hold-out for? I am pretty sure credit scores factor in, but in any case I am certain it’s “good” to “excellent” (I have not actually checked but I have no outstanding credit card debt and I am 99.999% on time/early with payments on all my credit lines).
